Companion originates from the Latin term compāniō, literally: one who eats bread with another. It describes a person you can trust. The companion we have built for our customers won’t break the bread with you - but it will surely help you find it.

The challenge

The broad corridors, the extensive range of products, and the smell of fresh food - shopping at a METRO store is an experience. Some customers know what they need, and some want to have a culinary exploration.
Knowing their diverse needs, we asked ourselves: How can we leverage technology to create a personalized experience for every customer?

The solution

The Companion digitizes and refines the entire customer journey both in and out of the METRO stores. It starts by using the digital customer card when you enter the store and ends with a seamless checkout. All it needs is a smartphone.
In the meantime, the Companion helps the customer browse and shop online, scan and search for items, and reminds them of special offers. All things useful, organized in one app so it’s always within arm’s reach.
