How will you make an impact? 

As Product Manager you will work with your team to develop the design system for the METRO digital product suite. As Design System Product Manager you will ensure the quality, accessibility and technical robustness of our end user experience while developing the internal tools to easily adopt the design system. You will support the team of 6 design and development specialists in creating and integrating consistent, efficient design patterns and components for the entire product portfolio on a platform level. The focus is on the entire product lifecycle, from establishing a practice and vision that endures, to designing, building, documenting, maintaining and managing the system used by the various METRO product teams.

Your Responsibilities: 

• Lead the Design System as an internal product, develop the product strategy driven by data and keep the best interests of METRO as a product company, and articulate outcome metrics for the Design System's success;
• Manage the Design System by OKRs, report team and system progress regularly to the senior company management;
• Align with Product Management and Engineering, and other stakeholders to prioritize and execute a consistent roadmap and set of priorities;
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary product teams to arrive at global reusable design patterns that are innovative and intuitive for customers;
• Dive deep into customer pain points and synthesize inputs (quantitative and qualitative data, user and stakeholder feedback, business and technical constraints, etc.) to inform and iterate design solutions;
• Create and drive the vision and strategy to help the METRO product teams adopt the METRO design system, with input from director-level peers of UX design and engineering teams. - Attract, lead, grow, and mentor a highly collaborative, high-performing cross-functional team of UX/ UI designers and engineers;
• Enable scale by establishing processes, selecting tools/platforms, defining success -metrics, and ensuring the team's long-term health and success;
• Drive collaboration, transparency, and clarity between multiple teams and functions while fostering a culture of user-centric design;
• Stay informed of the latest Design Systems thinking, engage with the broader community, and bring valuable findings back to the organization.

Required key competencies and qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in product management of web-based sites, applications, information architecture, interaction design, or front-end development;
• 5+ years managing design or front-end development team(s);
• Preferably experience building and managing a Design Systems team.
• Negotiation skills, good planning skills and exposure in developing documentation (requirements);
• Proficiency in communicating in English, both written and verbally;
• Front-end development experience with ReactJS or Web Components will be considered a plus Beneficial skills;
• Excellent analytic thinking and creative problem-solving skills - Detail-oriented and willing to continuously learn, adapt and evolve;
• Championing and growing a user-centric culture including usability and accessibility standards and practices;
• Familiarity with working across platforms and understanding the relative merits and constraints of those environments;
• Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, collaborate to solve problems, clearly present ideas and solutions, and keep colleagues and stakeholders informed;
• Technically savvy, able to work with engineering teams leveraging agile development methodologies.
